"I swear, this will be the invention that change lives! It will change history! It will change life as we know it!"
Seth insisted, a smile on his face along with a gleam of inspiration in his blue eyes.
"Somehow, I fail to see how a refrigerator crossed with a heart monitor will change life as we know it," the
old professor said dryly, looking down at Seth through his glasses. "Perhaps if we ever want to see how excited children
are about being able to see food being cooled..." he added in mock speculation. Around him, other scientists laughed,
snorting as they did so.
"It's not a heart monitor crossed with a refrigerator," Seth muttered, feeling humiliated.
"Well, that's all one can expect from a kid like you," the head scientist said derisively. "A kid that
could mix up something vital like liver tissue and heart tissue..."
Seth could take no more of the outright jeering, and he turned from the building, feeling sick with disappointment. It
came as no surprise to him when it started to rain when he left the building. The taxi he has asked to wait while he was in
the building had taken off, and no other one would stop for him. Resigned, he set about home, the rain soaking him to the
bone, causing him to shiver.
'Why doesn't anybody take me seriously?' he thought bitterly. 'So I've made a few mistakes...but that just makes me human!
Everybody just assumes I'm an idiot.'
He snapped out of his thoughts as he heard a vehicle roaring behind him. 'Great...now I'm going to be splashed by some
jerk. This is just perfect.'
To his surprise, the vehicle slowed beside him. The driver leaned over and rolled down the window. Seth was surprised
to find himself staring at...Seth. The Egyptian Seth that is.
"You really shouldn't be walking out in the rain," Seth said calmly. "Get in."
"But I hardly know you and-"
"It's that or walk to Ra knows where at dusk with a thunderstorm brewing," Seth said dryly. The blonde Seth
didn't take long to reach a decision and he climbed into the car.
"So...where are you staying?" Seth asked as he continued driving.
"In a hotel tonight," the younger Seth replied. "I didn't really feeling like going home tonight."
Seth snorted. "A hotel is hardly any better. You may as well come over to our place. At least we won't charge you
and arm and a leg."
"I really don't want to impose," Seth started, but the elder one cut him off.
"You won't be imposing. Samaya has gone to visit Kari and has brought Kaian with her. If it's privacy you want, you'll
get it," Seth said, his tone indicating there would be no room for argument.
"Well in that case, thanks," Seth said, touched.
They soon arrived at the mansion, the thunderstorm making a huge racket. Seth pulled into a garage and led Seth into the
house. Seth led the younger one to a bedroom. "You can stay here until morning," he said casually. "I suppose
I'll leave you alone now," he continued, turning around to leave.
"Wait!" Seth said, a plea in his voice. The Egyptian turned and was surprised to see desperation in the boys'eyes.
"I...I don't want to be alone right now," he said, looking down.
The elder Seth sighed and walked over to him, and embraced the young boy. Seth willingly returned the embrace, hungry
for some form of affection, for someone to see him as something other than an idiotic genius. The older man felt warm too,
and inviting.
The Egyptian decided to stay with Seth until he had fallen asleep. "Maybe you should change into something else,"
Seth suggested, noting the boys' wet clothes and obvious fatigue. He let go of Seth for an instant and went over to the closet
where he pulled out some pajamas once belonging to Mokuba. "Put these on," he urged. "So you don't catch a
cold."
The blonde one obliged, and slowly changed into the old pajamas. He hadn't realized how tired he was. Once he had changed,
the older Seth picked him up and placed him on the bed. He thought for a moment, and climbed in with him.
'Just until he falls asleep,' he thought with a mental shrug. He held onto the sleepy child, who gratefully accepted the
warmth he had to offer.
Not long after, the boy fell asleep. The older Seth went to move away, but felt the younger Seth stir uneasily. 'Well,
one night won't kill me,' he thought. He placed a kiss on the blondes' forehead before allowing himself to fall asleep alongside
the youth who shared his name.
The End
